A+ Scholarship Recipient  |  Student

Not completely sure what she wanted to study, Fort Zumwalt West High School graduate Makayla Hann enrolled at SCC using the A+ Scholarship.

“The scholarship gave me the opportunity to explore my options without feeling like I was wasting money,” she said.

Makayla initially wanted to become a teacher but switched gears after taking and enjoying Intro to Criminal Justice and Criminology courses.

She got involved on campus by joining Phi Theta Kappa honor society and volunteering for the SCC Foundation golf scramble. “I earned several Foundation scholarships, so helping out was important to me,” she said.

After SCC, she plans to transfer to University of Missouri- St. Louis to major in criminal justice and possibly pursuing education as a double major.

Makayla hopes to become an educator in a juvenile detention center when she finishes her bachelor’s degree.

“I want to show children the importance of education, motivate them to be driven to succeed in school, and put them back on the right track so they can grow to be successful people in our society,” she said.
